Bob Jones University is pleased to announce that Vickie Britton has been selected as the University’s 2026 recipient of the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU) Excellence in Teaching Award. Britton will be recognized along with 19 other outstanding faculty members from SCICU’s member institutions at the 2026 Excellence in Teaching Awards Dinner on April 21, 2026, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Each of SCICU’s 20 colleges and universities nominates one faculty member who exemplifies excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentorship. Honorees each receive a $3,000 professional development grant to support their continued growth as educators and leaders in higher education.
Britton joined the BJU faculty in 2004 following a distinguished 23‑year career teaching physical education at the middle and high school levels. She is a valued member of the Division of Health, Exercise and Sport Science, where she excels in both residential and online instruction. This year, she also led the University’s accreditation application to the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs—an initiative that reflects her dedication to strengthening academic quality and advancing her field.
Provost Dr. David Fisher commended Britton for her unwavering dedication to professional excellence, noting that she “inspires both her students and faculty colleagues through her enthusiastic commitment to staying current in her academic field and continually developing her pedagogical skill.” Students consistently affirm this reputation, frequently praising her expertise, engaging teaching style and genuine investment in their lives. One student shared that “she is extremely kind and involved in students’ lives—her enthusiasm for teaching spreads to her students.”
In the classroom, Britton teaches a variety of exercise and wellness courses and leverages her extensive professional experience and strong community partnerships to create meaningful real‑world learning opportunities. Through internships and collaborations with local organizations, she connects academic preparation with practical experience. Britton holds degrees in health and exercise science and health and physical education from Furman University and Bob Jones University. Her professional credentials include ACSM Exercise Physiologist, ACSM Personal Trainer, Exercise is Medicine and NSCA Strength and Conditioning Specialist certifications.
Her influence extends well beyond her academic responsibilities. Britton founded and sponsors the Exercise and Sport Science Student Association, mentoring students and fostering professional development within the program.
She also contributes to the University community by offering individualized fitness programs, leading exercise classes and providing coaching support. An avid runner, she is a member of the Greenville Track Club and has completed 16 marathons.
