Homecoming 2020 Becomes ‘Homestaying’

Cheekily renamed “Homestaying,” BJU’s 2020 Homecoming weekend has been moved to virtual platforms because of COVID-19. Some events are familiar; others are brand new. Check homecoming.bju.edu for more information.

“Homestaying” Spirit Week

This week is full of events planned for students or “future alumni” as Chelsea Fraser, director of Alumni Relations, likes to call them. Two days have been designated with special themes. Friday is the traditional Bruins Spirit Day, but Tuesday is “Decade Day.” Students will dress in outfits from their favorite decade of the past and compete on Instagram for best dressed prizes.

Fundraisers will run throughout the week with money donated to Rice Bowls, a local Christian charity. Rice Bowls helps fund the food budgets of orphanages around the world. Funds raised during “Homestaying” week will be presented to Rice Bowls board member and BJU alum Bryan Martin during halftime of the men’s soccer match on Saturday.

Fundraisers

“Homestaying” T-shirt shirt sales — Shirts will be sold for $12 each or two for $20 in the Student Center Mall from 11:30 a.m.–2 p.m. and in front of the dining common from 5–7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Outdoor movie nights — Two feature films will be shown on the gazebo lawn. Admission is free, and bags of popcorn and funnel cakes will be available for purchase for $1 each. Students should bring a blanket for sitting on the grass and practice physical distancing.
