With their grandmothers’ recipes, Scott and Meredith Layton founded the Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop in November 2013. Since then, franchises have spread across the South, including a location in Greenville, South Carolina.
Southern Custard, Granny’s Apple and Chewy Chocolate Chip are among the pies offered year-round. Buttermilk Sky Pie also offers seasonal pies such as Peach Pie, Strawberry Pie or Spiced Pumpkin Pie. All pies are available in 9-inch, 4-inch, and 2-inch sizes. They also make Cloud 9’s—a unique take on pie a la mode—and Thumbprint Cookies.
In addition to catering, Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop offers free pie. Remember those 4-inch pies? If you join their Pie Club, you get a coupon for a free 4-inch pie during your birthday month.

After four years running her pop-up business, Jeannie Hall (English Education, ‘11) opened Bossy Bakers on Wade Hampton Blvd. in October 2019. Along with a variety of baked goods (and drinks), the shop offers pie and pie slices. And on order forms, you can request gluten-free or vegan options.
