Alum Moves from Unemployment to Heat of Action

God moves in mysterious ways. A little over a month ago, I was looking for a job. I had three options open to me and decided to take a position at a major hospital in Cleveland, Ohio as a data analyst. My first day was the day Ohio had its first case of COVID-19. As many of you have, I got caught up in the COVID-19 response.

One week into work, I was asked to be part of the unified incident command structure. This moved me into the heat of the action. My job is to create visuals and presentation for the senior leaders of the hospital to use to make decisions. I’m responsible for tracking PPE, COVID positive patient location and patient outcomes.

While I certainly have not asked for this responsibility, I am reminded of God’s promise in Proverbs 22:29, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” The hours are very long, but with diligence and the skill God has given me I am able to make an impact on the Cleveland community.

Another truth that hits home during this day is James 4:14, “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” My responsibilities include tracking patient deaths. It is hard. Because of state restrictions, most of these people died alone without family to be with them. I’m not at all familiar with their spiritual state, but I’m reassured that when my divinely appointed time comes, I will not die alone. I have fellowship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

For my fellow healthcare professionals, especially those seeing patients, I am praying for your safety, endurance and godliness during this time.

My God bless and keep you all and may we all dwell in the shelter of the Almighty (Ps. 91:1).
