Karol Edwards Named Chief Nursing Officer and Assistant VP of Operations for MedStar Ambulatory Services

GREENVILLE, S.C. (December 6, 2017) – Karol Edwards, 1989 Bob Jones University nursing graduate, was recently promoted by MedStar Health to serve as the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for its MedStar Ambulatory Services (MAS) division and Assistant Vice President of Operations (AVP) for its four most northern ambulatory care centers.

Edwards will be responsible for the business operations of these centers, as well as the clinical operations of the 9 MAS and 14 PromptCare facilities in the Baltimore; Washington, DC; northern Maryland; and northern Virginia areas.

Specifically, Edwards will serve as the senior leader and strategic advisor to regional and site staff, helping to ensure that all quality, safety, and performance standards and goals are met across the MAS division.  She will also chair the MAS Clinical Nursing Council and serve on the MedStar CNO Nursing Council and the MAS/MedStar Medical Group Coordinating Council.

A board-certified nurse executive, Edwards previously served as a MedStar Regional Administrator, where she was instrumental in the planning and opening of numerous ambulatory care facilities.  A registered nurse for more than 28 years, Edwards has served as the Director of Emergency Services for multiple area hospitals, including Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Union Hospital of Cecil County, and MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

In addition to her BSN degree from BJU, Edwards earned a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska (2004).  In addition, she is a member of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nurses and the Emergency Nurses Association, and she is a newly elected Director to the Governance Board of The ARC Northern Chesapeake Region, a local support organization for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
