GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 22, 2019) – Karis Tompkins, a senior exercise science major, at Bob Jones University, serves as an intern this semester for Furman University Sportsmedicine Center in Greenville.

Tompkins, a resident of Greenville, observes the athletic trainers for the Paladin men’s and women’s lacrosse teams as they treat, train and rehabilitate athletes. By attending practices and games, she gains firsthand experience with assessing and treating injuries in intense situations.

“I have gained valuable experience working under the athletic trainers. Academically, they have prepared me for classes and for graduate school. Personally, they challenge me to go outside my comfort zone by pushing me to take initiative and learn therapy techniques,” says Tompkins. “I also get to see the focus and high competition level while working with incredible athletes at a Division 1 school. I am so thankful for the valuable life experiences I have received from working with athletes and athletic trainers at Furman!”
