GREENVILLE, S.C. (June 13, 2017) – Four Bob Jones University voice students were among 13 college students advanced by the South Carolina District of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) to the semifinals of the NATS National Student Auditions. Each of the students ranked in the top 14 of the nation in their respective categories.
“We are so proud of each of these students and the hard work that has led them to advance in this prestigious competition,” said Dr. Darren Lawson, dean of the School of Fine Arts and Communication at BJU. “Their success also reflects highly on their professor, Dr. Troy Castle, whose expertise and dedication to his students make this accomplishment possible.”
Elisa Chodan, a 2017 BJU grad with a Masters of Music degree in performance, placed in the Advanced College/Independent Studio – Women category. Chodan is a resident of Taylors.
Joseph Bowman, a junior voice performance major, competed in both the Upper College Music Theater – Men and the Upper College/Independent Studio – Men categories. Bowman is a resident of Cumming, Georgia.
Jason Hamilton, a senior voice performance major, placed in the Upper College/Independent Studio – Men category. Hamilton is a resident of Greenville.
Daniel Griffin, a graduate church music student, placed in the Advanced College/Independent Studio – Men category. Griffin is a resident of Greenville.
The semifinal and final rounds of the competition will be held at the NATS National Workshop July 20-22 at the University of Boulder in Colorado.
