Denny to Serve as Division Chair and Women’s Volleyball Head Coach at BJU

GREENVILLE, S.C. (August 20, 2015) – Dr. Vickie Denny will join the Bob Jones University faculty this fall as chair for the Division of Health, Exercise and Sport Science in the School of Education. In addition, Denny will also serve as head coach for the BJU Bruins women’s volleyball team which will begin competition in fall 2016. Denny previously served as chair of the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at Clearwater Christian College (CCC) in Clearwater, Florida, and as the women’s volleyball coach.

“Vickie brings a wealth of leadership experience to BJU—as a professor, a division chair and intercollegiate coach,” said Dr. Brian Carruthers, dean of the School of Education at BJU. “I am looking forward to having her lead the division and help take it to the next level.”

Denny earned a BS in Health and Physical Education (1978) from BJU, an MS in Physical Education/Psychomotor Development from the University of Illinois at Chicago (1982) and a PhD in Physical Education/Teacher Education from Florida State University (1992) in Tallahassee, Florida. She also completed some graduate work at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

In addition to her twenty-six years of service at CCC, Denny served as an adjunct online professor at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana, a teaching assistant at The Ohio State University, and an associate professor of physical education at Maranatha Baptist University (MBU) in Watertown, Wisconsin.

She served as CCC’s director of Athletics beginning in 2014 and currently serves as a board member of the National Christian College Athletic Association.

An inductee into both the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) and CCC Halls of Fame, Denny was named NCCAA District Coach of the Year (seven years in a row), NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year (ten years), NCCAA National Tournament Coach (three times), and NCCAA National Coach of the Year (six years). She also served as the NCCAA’s Division II National Chair for Volleyball.  Denny’s teams at MBU and CCC won the NCCAA National Championship fourteen times, including winning the national championship eight years in a row.

Denny made a number of professional presentations across the nation and authored numerous articles in various periodicals regarding sports, exercise and coaching volleyball.

Denny is a member of the Society of Health and Physical Educators, the American Volleyball Coaches Association, the National Christian College Athletic Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.
