GREENVILLE, S.C. (November 7, 2017) – Colonel George Youstra, the Joint Staff Chaplain for the United States Air Force Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will address the Bob Jones University student body in chapel Thursday, Nov. 9, in commemoration of Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 11.
“We are privileged to host Chaplain Youstra at BJU as we honor the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces,” said BJU President Steve Pettit.
Youstra graduated from BJU in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in social studies education. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Anderson University School of Theology in Anderson, Indiana, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the Air War College in Montgomery, Alabama.
As the Joint Staff Chaplain, Youstra advises the Chairman on the constitutional free exercise of religion and related matters impacting Department of Defense service personnel and their families. Youstra also assists in integrating chaplains and chaplain assistant/religious program specialists into joint force organizations to coordinate defense-wide religious support, advising on moral and ethical issues related to policies, programs, initiatives, exercises and operations.
Youstra served for 14 years in the United States Army as Special Forces, Infantry, Military Policy Officer and Chaplain. In 1998, Chaplain Youstra entered active duty as a US Air Force Chaplain. He has served at all levels of the Chaplain Corps from Group Chaplain, Senior Protestant Chaplain, Wing Chaplain, Numbered Air Force, and Major Commands Staff Action Officer and has deployed in support of operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Youstra’s chapel address is open to the public. Chapel begins at 11 a.m. in the Founder’s Memorial Amphitorium on the BJU campus. Parking is available in the parking garage located directly behind Rodeheaver Auditorium and on campus streets.
