BJU To Host Homecoming Weekend

GREENVILLE, S.C. (October 7, 2016) — Bob Jones University will welcome alumni families and friends from the Greenville community for homecoming Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 20 – 22. Most events will take place on the BJU campus.

Homecoming activities kick off Thursday with Heritage Day Chapel at 11 a.m. in Founder’s Memorial Amphitorium (FMA). Other events on Thursday include a golf outing at 1 p.m. and a Homecoming Concert at 7 p.m. in Rodeheaver Auditorium (RA), featuring the BJU orchestra and guest soloists.

Friday’s events include a Homecoming Kick-off Chapel at 11 a.m. in FMA, an author talk and book signing in Stratton Hall at 3 p.m., a music scholarship benefit concert in War Memorial Chapel at 4:30 p.m., a reunion dinner, and a Bruins Family Game Show in Stratton Hall at 8:30 p.m. The Bruins women’s volleyball team will play Friday at 4 and 7 p.m. in the Davis Field House where, at 10 p.m., a student pep rally will take place to end the day’s events.

Saturday’s activities begin with the Bruin Nation 5K Run at 8 a.m., which is open to everyone. Beginning at 9, BJU will host its first annual U Day event on front campus, which will be a fun, interactive, educational event for alumni and community families and will continue until noon.

Other events that morning/afternoon include campus tours, open houses, soccer and volleyball clinics, family workshops, several affinity reunions, and a Maker’s Market presented by the Museum & Gallery, which will give guests the opportunity to shop from a variety of handmade art, crafts and designs by BJU graduates, faculty and students.

President Steve Pettit and administrators will update alumni on current university initiatives Saturday at 11 a.m. The event will include a question and answer session.

BJU’s culinary arts program, in conjunction with the journalism & mass communication program, will present a culinary challenge student showcase from 2-4:30 p.m. in Stratton Hall.  The science & engineering program will present a student showcase entitled Kaleidoscope from 2-4:30 p.m. in the Science Building.

Intercollegiate soccer kicks off at 4 p.m. when the Bruins women’s soccer team faces off against Spartanburg Methodist College in Alumni Stadium, followed by a Bruins BBQ Bash at the Activity Center at 4:30 p.m. At 7 p.m. the men’s soccer team hosts Columbia International University.

During the soccer matches, families can enjoy Bruin Village with inflatables, carnival type games, and Bruin photo opportunities. Guests can also enjoy food trucks and vendors including The Chuck Truck, Ellada Kouzina, Chick-fil-A, and the Nomadic Few.
