GREENVILLE, S.C. (January 31, 2017) – Bob Jones University President Steve Pettit announced today that BJU will host the Allen Jacobs Memorial Prayer Breakfast Thursday, March 16, to honor the memory of Officer Allen Jacobs and recognize law enforcement professionals across Greenville County who protect and serve our communities each day.

“March 18, 2016, was a date that devastated Greenville,” said Pettit. “On that date, Greenville Police Department Officer Allen Jacobs lost his life in the line of duty. In the days following his death, we heard countless stories of his courage and bravery in serving the people of Greenville. It is my hope that this breakfast, to be held annually, will honor Jacobs and recognize the work of law enforcement professionals in our community.”

During the breakfast, the Allen Jacobs Award of Valor, Public Safety Employee of the Year, Award of Merit, and the Distinguished Achievement Award will be presented. Nominations for these awards may be submitted through Friday, Feb. 17.

The breakfast, which will begin at 7 a.m. in the Davis Room of the Dixon-McKenzie Dining Common on the BJU campus, is being provided free of charge to law enforcement personnel. Business and community leaders across the Upstate are encouraged to attend and sponsor the breakfast.

Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the Allen Jacobs Memorial Scholarship Fund, which was created last year at the request of the Jacobs family, to assist BJU students majoring in criminal justice. During 2016, nearly $50,000 was raised for the scholarship fund.
