BJU Celebrates Homecoming and Family Weekend

GREENVILLE, S.C. (September 13, 2017) — Bob Jones University will welcome student and alumni families and friends from the Greenville community for Homecoming and Family Weekend Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 12 to 14. Most events will take place on the BJU campus.

Check-in begins at 8 a.m. in the BJU Welcome Center on Thursday. Activities on Thursday include a golf outing at 1 p.m., a parent and family reception at 3:30 p.m., and the Classroom Connection, which will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, offering guests an opportunity to experience a variety of BJU classes. A Homecoming Concert Thursday evening at 7 p.m. in Rodeheaver Auditorium (RA) will feature the BJU Symphonic Wind Band and guest soloist and BJU alumnus, Daniel Birnschein (trumpet).

Friday’s events include the Alumni and Parent Appreciation Chapel in Founder’s Memorial Amphitorium (FMA) at 11 a.m., campus tours from 1 to 4 p.m., an author talk in Levinson Hall followed by a book signing in the Student Mall at 2 p.m., a college success seminar in Levinson Hall at 3 p.m., a fine arts benefit concert in War Memorial Chapel at 4:30 p.m., alumni reception and reunion dinner, and Twenty Eight Steps, a Theatre Arts production in Stratton Hall at 7 p.m. Back by popular demand, the Bruins Family Game Show will be held in RA at 8:30 p.m. Society scrimmage games will be played from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the athletic fields and the Bruins women’s volleyball team will play Johnson and Wales University at 7 p.m. in the Davis Field House where, at 10 p.m., a student pep rally will end the day’s events.

Saturday’s activities begin with the Museum & Gallery basement sale at 8 a.m., the Bruin Nation 5k Family Race at 8:30 a.m., and the Unusual Films Memorabilia Sale at 9 a.m. The second annual U.Day, an educational street fair for alumni and community families, will take place on BJU’s front campus from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Museum & Gallery Maker’s Market will be in the Student Center from 10 to 6 p.m., giving guests the opportunity to shop from a variety of handmade art, crafts and designs by BJU graduates, faculty and students.

President Steve Pettit and administrators will update guests on current university initiatives in Stratton Hall at 11 a.m. This event will include a question and answer session.

Other events that morning/afternoon include a variety of youth sports clinics, several affinity reunions, and a Patch the Pirate Concert in RA at 2 p.m.

Intercollegiate soccer kicks off at 4 p.m. when the Bruins face off against Trinity Baptist College in Alumni Stadium, the women’s game at 4 p.m. followed by the men’s match at 7 p.m. During the games, families can enjoy the Bruins BBQ Bash at the Activity Center and the Bruin Village with inflatables, carnival type games, and Bruin photo opportunities.
