Abigail Volmer, a junior interior architecture and design major from Powdersville, South Carolina, spent the summer interning with Crystal Coast Interiors in Beaufort, North Carolina.

During her internship, Volmer worked alongside the company’s designers and assisted in the workroom. Her responsibilities included helping with client meetings, organizing project files, creating graphic design materials for the company’s van and business cards, patterning on boats and assisting seamstresses with various sewing projects. She also helped organize the showroom, workroom and office spaces.

The experience provided Volmer with a firsthand look at the daily operations of a small business while expanding her knowledge of the design industry.

“This internship was impactful for me because I experienced how a small business was run,” said Volmer. “I was very encouraged by the close-knit company I worked for, and I have walked away with great appreciation and respect for the designers and owners of Crystal Coast Interiors. I have also walked away with a wealth of knowledge about boat building and all the design work that goes into it.”

Through the internship, Volmer strengthened her professional skills, gained practical design experience and developed a deeper appreciation for the collaboration and craftsmanship involved in the industry.
