Welcome Week begins with student greeters at check in

August 31 is swiftly approaching.

That bit of information is not intended to provoke angst in the newest members of Bruin Nation. To the contrary, check-in day at BJU generates excitement that continues throughout Welcome Week, if not the semester.

The Welcome Week schedule is packed with the rudimentary, the creative—learning shortcuts from class to class and the quickest route to lunch—and the entertaining. The busy Check-in Day includes women’s and men’s soccer season-opening home soccer matches.

“All the Welcome Week activities are geared to help first-year students get acclimated to their new community and prepare them for the task ahead,” said Rebecca Weier, Director of Student Engagement & Success.

“The seminars on Monday and Tuesday mornings are designed to get them ready to meet BJU’s expectations both in community and academically. Doing college at BJU is not meant to be a transactional experience, but a transformational one. Therefore, our expectations are intentionally rigorous. But, along with the rigor comes an army of people willing to help students meet those expectations. Being prepared for what’s coming puts students on the path to success from the outset.”

Opening exercises are at 7 p.m. on September 2 in Founder’s Memorial Amphitorium and will be webcast. Classes begin September 4, and fun activities for all students continue nightly through the end of the week.

Now that’s something to look forward to.
