Thanksgiving Praise Service: In Christ Alone

BJU’s Thanksgiving Praise Service has been a campus tradition since 2007.

During the final chapel before heading home for the holiday, “the University pauses the busyness of the semester to focus our attention and (express) thankfulness to our Savior,” says Dr. Darren Lawson, dean of the School of Fine Arts and Communication. “(It) is a highlight of the year.”

The 2019 theme was “In Christ Alone,” with sections focusing on Christ as our Creator, our Refuge and our Redeemer. In addition to longtime favorites, Dr. Warren Cook and the Chorale introduced a new hymn, “Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul,” to the campus community.

“The Praise Service is a wonderful opportunity for us all to praise God together and encourage one another to keep believing what we know is true about our sweet Savior,” says Cook, who has been the conductor since its beginning.

If you missed the live performance, two of the songs from the Praise Service—“Rock of Ages” and “Amazing Grace”—are still available to watch via the BJU livestream archive.
