Make-your-own art studios don’t simply provide a chance to create your own masterpiece to either keep or gift a loved one. They also provide a relaxing break from daily life, something that’s needed even more this holiday season. Greenville has several locations you can visit with a group of friends for a fun evening out. These picks offer more original projects than the typical ceramic and canvas DIY art studios.

Open Art Studios

Have you ever wanted to paint a portrait of your pet? At Open Art Studios, you can. Send in a photo of your pet, and one of their artists will sketch your pet for you to paint. You simply need to pick up the sketch. “Paint UR Pet” kits are available as a Grab & Go paint option. Up to eight people can also paint for up to an hour in Open Art Studios’ DIY space. You may walk in, but the artists do recommend reserving a time slot. The studio is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday and 12–4 p.m. on Sunday.
Open Art Studios is currently running a special: Gift certificate for a 1.5-hour painting session for two for $25 (valid for Jan. 1–Feb. 28, 2021).
TR Makers Co.

Glass etching, block carving, jewelry making, printmaking — these are a few of the art “playdates” adults and kids can book at TR Makers Co. At the Makers Happy Hour events, experiment with tools and learn about artists’ techniques. The studio is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday with limited class sizes. Events for groups of 3–9 can be scheduled for sessions in the studio. Groups larger than 10 may book a virtual or off-site party.
