Dr. Pattye Casarow to Become Associate Dean of BJU’s School of Fine Arts & Communication

GREENVILLE, S.C. (May 1, 2023) – Dr. Darren Lawson, dean of the BJU School of Fine Arts & Communication, announced today that Dr. Pattye Casarow, professor of Music Education, will become the associate dean for the School of Fine Arts & Communication immediately following graduation May 5, 2023.

Dr. Casarow joined the Bob Jones University music faculty in 2016 where she has served as the head of the department of music education, program coordinator for the online Master of Music Education, and conductor of University Singers, the University’s freshmen choir.

She holds a BS in Music Education, with proficiencies in piano and voice, from Grand Canyon University where she graduated summa cum laude; an MMus in Music Education, with an emphasis in choral music, from Arizona State University; and a DMA in Choral Conducting, also from Arizona State University.

“I’m very excited that Dr. Casarow has accepted this leadership position in the School of Fine Arts & Communication,” said Lawson. “Her passion for students and her keen organizational abilities make her the perfect choice for the role. I look forward to working closely with her in the years to come.”

Before coming to BJU, Dr. Casarow was a professor of music at Clearwater Christian College in Florida for 13 years where she chaired the music department, taught and conducted three choirs. Her choirs have performed in various settings from Carnegie Hall in New York City to Istanbul, Turkey.

Before entering higher education, Dr. Casarow spent 20 years in K – 12 music education in Georgia, New Jersey, and Arizona.

Dr. Casarow has presented numerous workshops in music education and choral music as well as conducted choral festivals. Her research is in the area of sight singing pedagogy with field study in the Sight Reading Choirs of the Florida All-State system. She has authored a number of articles for the South Carolina Musician, Handbell Musicians of America: Overtones and the Journal for Christian Educators.

She is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the South Carolina Music Educators Association, the American Choral Directors Association, the Organization for American Kodály Educators, and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
