Greenville, S.C. (Jun. 3, 2013) Bob Jones University announced today the appointment of Dennis Scott to head BJU’s intercollegiate coed golf program. Scott comes to BJU from Northland International University (NIU) in Dunbar, Wis., where he started the intercollegiate golf program and served as its head coach.

Since 1991, Scott served in various roles of the athletic program at NIU, including director of Sports Ministries.  A graduate of Maranatha Baptist Bible College and the United States Sports Academy (USSA), Scott is currently pursuing his doctorate in Sport Management from USSA.

“As a former student and assistant basketball coach to Coach Scott, he taught me how to use sport as a platform for ministry,” Bruins Athletic Director Neal Ring said. “He has modeled throughout his career a commitment to keeping Christ as the focus of his programs. We are blessed to add someone to our team with his ministry philosophy. I am confident that he will build a competitive golf program while developing men and women to serve our Savior.”

Coach Scott views athletics as an avenue to spread the Gospel.  He founded Northern Golf Fellowship, an organization that provides weekly golf outings and Bible study as an outreach for individuals in the community and has led sports mission teams around the world.

BJU’s golf program will begin competition this fall.  Bob Jones University is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) and golf will provide new opportunities for our students in the 2013-2014 academic year.
