After graduating from college, Hummel joined the staff at The Wilds, a Christian camp in Brevard, North Carolina, where he specialized in teen ministry. He served as program director for over two decades. He ministered to approximately 15,000 teenagers every summer. He later became the assistant director, and in 2007 was appointed director of The Wilds of New England.

Maintaining a busy itinerary throughout the year, he preaches about 350 times annually. He has also written several books and Bible study guides. Much of his speaking and writing focuses on evangelism, the knowledge of God through personal daily devotions and moral purity.

Hummel and his wife, Amber, have two adult children and three grandchildren.

“We are honored to have Rand Hummel with us to kick off the spring semester. His dedication to inspiring young people to live faithfully for Christ and his years of experience at The Wilds brings a unique and impactful perspective,” said BJU President Josh Crockett. “As we begin this new semester, we look forward to the wisdom and encouragement he will share, challenging us all to grow in our faith and commitment to serving the Lord. It is a privilege to welcome such a passionate and seasoned speaker who helps us focus on what truly matters in our walk with God.”
