GREENVILLE, S.C. (November 24, 2015) — The Bruins men’s soccer team suffered a disappointing end to the 2015 season as the team fell 5-2 to Southern Wesleyan University in the semi-final round of the NCCAA DI south regional playoffs. The Bruins finished the season at 10-7.

Several Bruins players on the team were recognized for their impressive play during the course of the season and the Bruins team captured the sportsmanship award for the region. This is awarded to the team with the fewest cautions and red cards throughout the season.

“It is certainly a privilege to win the sportsmanship award,” Coach Jesse McCormick said. “I believe this shows a sincere effort by our players to reflect Christ well in the matches that we play.”

Bruins’ captain Ryan McCarty and defenseman Travis Woodham were each named to the all-tournament team for their performance during the regional playoffs. McCarty and Woodham joined AJ Redlinger as players named to the All-Region 2nd team, while Bruins’ striker Matt Moore received All-Region 1st team honors.

“I am excited to see the players be rewarded for their hard work and effort throughout the year,” Coach McCormick said. “The four player receiving awards are well deserving and I believe they have reflected Christ well both on and off the field this past season. Travis has been one of the most consistent players for our team the last 4 years and has done a great job for us defensively this season. Ryan McCarty has been a leader on and off the field. Both Ryan and Matt have been a major part of our success offensively since the start of the program. AJ has done a great job with his consistent strong play in the midfield on both sides of the ball.”

Although the Bruins fell short of their expectations on the field, the team continued to show Christ on and off the pitch this year. With these four players being recognized with individual awards, the program continues to prove it has what it takes to compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association DI south region.
