Bob Jones University’s Opera Association will present The Elixir of Love on March 3, 5 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Rodeheaver Auditorium. This comic opera, performed in English, follows an unobtainable lady, a hopelessly lovestruck peasant and a sweet‑talking con man whose “miracle elixir” promises to change the course of their story.
“Set in a vintage Italian café, The Elixir of Love unfolds where espresso is strong and romance is always on the menu. Shy Nemorino longs for the spirited Adina, but the boastful Sergeant Belcore and the charismatic ‘Doctor’ Dulcamara complicate matters — especially when a so‑called miracle elixir begins to flow,” said Nathan Pittack, associate producer for fine arts at BJU. “With Donizetti’s sparkling score and some of opera’s most beloved melodies, this effervescent comedy celebrates courage, courtship and sweet surprises of the human heart.”
Dr. Megan Stapleton, assistant professor of Voice Studies at BJU, brings Adina to life in the production’s leading role. Joining her are acclaimed guest artists: award‑winning tenor William Davenport as Nemorino; GRAMMY Award–winning baritone Adelmo Guidarelli as Dulcamara; and BJU alumnus Tim Renner as Belcore. The cast performs alongside the BJU Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Michael Moore, dean of the School of Fine Arts and Communication.
