Bob Jones University will present “America the Beautiful with Richard Kaufman” Thursday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Rodeheaver Auditorium, featuring GRAMMY Award–winning conductor Richard Kaufman leading a symphonic celebration of American music and heritage.

The program will showcase well-known works by Antonín Dvořák, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin and John Williams, including Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, performed by BJU piano faculty member Dr. Deanna Moore.

Professional trumpeter Barry Perkins will return to campus to lead the Bob Jones University Symphony Orchestra brass in Copland’s stirring Fanfare for the Common Man. Other highlights include a performance by the Bob Jones Academy Elementary Vocal Ensemble, an orchestra-accompanied narration of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and the presentation of colors by the Greenville Police Department.

The evening will also feature the premiere of Psalm: Hunting Island, a new film by cinema faculty member Jason Waggoner with an original score by music faculty member Chris Enloe. The film features scenes from South Carolina’s coastal region and will be performed live with orchestral accompaniment.

“We’re excited to welcome Richard and Barry back to our stage,” said Dr. Michael Moore, dean of the BJU School of Fine Arts and Communication. “I’m so pleased with how our students have tackled this huge program. The audience is going to love hearing so many of their symphonic patriotic favorites. And Jason Waggoner’s new film and Chris Enloe’s score are just stunningly beautiful.”

Tickets are $5–10, plus fees, and are available through the Rodeheaver Auditorium box office. Community members are invited to attend and encouraged to bring a friend for this celebration of American music, history and creativity.
