Greenville, S.C. (April 22, 2013) – The Bob Jones University Alumni Association recently recognized Betty Solomon with its Distinguished Servant Award. Solomon has been teaching English, journalism and communications at BJU since 1978.
Solomon received a BS degree in English Education from BJU in 1978. She also earned a MEd in English from BJU in 1980 and a MA in Journalism from the University of South Carolina in 1993.
Throughout her career at BJU, Solomon served as a faculty advisor to the Vintage staff, as a copy editor for BJU Press and was instrumental in the development of BJU’s award-winning campus newspaper, The Collegian.
Solomon also has written articles for Today’s Christian Teen, BJU Review, Voice of the Alumni and served as a general assignment writer at The Greenville News. She continues to devote herself to mentoring journalism students during both their four-year academic career as well as their post-graduation careers in media around the country.
Solomon is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Journalism Education Association and was selected for membership in the national journalism honor society Kappa Tau Alpha.
