Katelyn Edwards, a senior Sports Management major at Bob Jones University, is completing an internship with the BJU Bruins Athletics Department in Greenville, SC.
A resident of Macon, GA, Edwards assists with the launching of the new Bruins Buddies program, a special opportunity for children from preschool through 12th grade to meet and interact with student-athletes. In addition, Edwards updates graphics for various social media platforms.
“I value my internship with the Bruins Athletics Department because it allows me to gain hands-on experience working in sports at the collegiate level,” said Edwards. “Managing an organization with multiple athletic programs requires teamwork, organization, and adaptability, and I’m grateful to be learning those skills from some of the best in the field. This internship, along with the guidance of the incredible professors in the Sports Management department, is preparing me to confidently pursue a leadership role in sports social media and digital marketing after graduation.”
Through her internship, Edwards has had the opportunity to experience the inner workings of a collegiate athletics department—everything from event coordination and community engagement to digital content creation. Her work with the Bruins Buddies program has allowed her to connect directly with the local community, while her role in updating graphics and managing social media has strengthened her understanding of how branding and communication impact fan engagement. These hands-on responsibilities give her a front-row seat to the teamwork and strategy that drive successful athletic programs.
The sport management program at Bob Jones University equips students like Edwards with a strong foundation in both the business and ministry aspects of athletics. Combining classroom instruction with real-world learning experiences, the program emphasizes leadership, marketing, management, and ethical decision-making in the sports industry. BJU’s sport management program prepares graduates to lead with integrity in athletic organizations, recreation programs, and sports-related businesses.
