Michaiah Pierce, a senior Kinesiology major at Bob Jones University, is completing an internship with Encompass Health Rehabilitation in Greenville, SC.
A resident of Wellington, Colorado, Pierce assists patients with basic needs, cleans the therapy gym and ensures it is well-stocked, works alongside therapists with spotting and wheelchair follows, and helps with meals for patients with eating cautions.
“This internship has challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and has provided valuable opportunities for professional growth within a healthcare environment,” said Pierce. “I have gained valuable knowledge in areas such as patient care and hospital procedures, which will equip me for success in graduate school and my future career.”
Through her internship, Pierce has gained firsthand experience and observed the importance of teamwork and compassionate care in supporting patient recovery. By assisting therapists and interacting directly with patients, she has developed practical skills that complement her classroom learning and prepare her for future roles in the health and wellness field.
BJU’s Kinesiology program provides students with a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, and exercise science. The program emphasizes both academic study and practical experience, preparing graduates for careers in physical therapy, athletic training, fitness, and other health-related professions.
