GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 3, 2023) – Several members of the Bob Jones University Marketing Association (UMA), a student-led association that helps members develop and test marketing skills, attended the American Marketing Association’s (AMA) annual International Collegiate Conference (ICC) in New Orleans March 30 – April 1. The ICC is an opportunity for college students to come together with peers from across the country to compete alongside other students. Throughout the conference, students heard from experienced professionals currently working in the marketing industry.
“I was able to attend a President’s Roundtable and many different chapter leadership sessions that gave me good insight as to how our chapter can improve in years to come,” said Erin Albert, UMA president. “I look forward to using what I’ve learned and hosting more networking and community service events for our members.”
The AMA was a high point for the UMA members. The conference gave students a chance to practice what they have been learning in classes and practically apply the values that they have been developing in and out of the classroom. The UMA emphasizes the importance of networking and the ICC provided a venue to put this knowledge into practice.
Dr. Adele Dunn, the faculty advisor for the UMA, said “the American Marketing Association is one of the largest professional associations for marketers globally and the International Collegiate Conference and our local University Chapter provides a gateway to that network. Participating in the Collegiate Conference is an opportunity for future marketing professionals to learn from marketing leaders, put their marketing skills to the test in numerous competitions and build their marketing network.”
The ICC conference impacted the UMA members by growing them personally through the professional talks about personal branding. It grew them practically because the conference gave students the opportunity to get hands-on practice through competitions. Finally, the ICC grew the students professionally through the example of the AMA staff and the opportunities to interact with them. If other students want to have an opportunity to grow exponentially as marketers, the UMA is a great place to learn practical skills and the AMA’s ICC is an amazing opportunity to practice those skills in a professional environment.
