Events & Activities Information

Events will be adjusted to allow for the application of COVID-19 protocols. This may result in limiting the frequency, the size of groups, the chosen venue and the seating capacity. Events that cannot accommodate these adjustments will be canceled. Some events will have adjusted programs and will be moved to outside venues.

Chapels

Chapel is an essential component of a BJU education and attendance is required.

  • To accommodate physical distancing, students will be separated by classification into three buildings for chapel.
    • Freshmen — FMA main floor
    • Sophomores — Rodeheaver Auditorium
    • Juniors — FMA balcony/Stratton Hall
    • Seniors — FMA main floor
  • Seating will be every other seat and every other row to accommodate physical distancing.
  • Face coverings will be required.
  • Chapel will be held twice a week on Monday and Wednesday.
  • Tuesday and Thursday will be either discipleship groups or society.

    • Friday

      • Men: discipleship groups

Concert, Opera & Drama Series

  • The three fine arts events scheduled for this semester will be student only events.

Athletics

  • Decisions on athletic schedules will be made following guidance from national athletic organizations (NCAA, NCCAA and NAIA).
  • BJU students and faculty/staff will be asked to show their green screen clearance at the gate before being admitted to the game.
  • Immediate family members of current Bruins student-athletes will have opportunity to attend games after passing through a screening process. These guests will be required to pass a health questionnaire and temperature check (less than 100.4) prior to entry. A special entrance and seating area will be made available to family members.
  • No other fans will be admitted at this time.
  • Fans will be encouraged to physically distance in seating both at the Davis Field House and Alumni Stadium.
  • Masks will be required at indoor sporting events, and at outdoor events when physical distancing cannot be maintained. In anticipation of unusually large crowds at particular events, the University may require masks due to the size of the crowd.
  • If a fan leaves the facility, they will need to be screened again at the entry point to be admitted back into the game.
  • Concessions will only serve pre-packaged items with workers wearing masks and gloves to serve guests.
  • Event staff will be sanitizing high traffic surfaces frequently.
  • Bruins webcasts will still feature each home game for our soccer and volleyball teams this fall and will continue to be free access to watch.
  • Indoor courts will not be accessible.

Local Church

  • Participation in local church is a vital part of the spiritual growth of every member of the BJU community. The University is partnering with local churches to ensure that students have opportunity to participate in local church life while being able to practice proper COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
  • An elective Sunday morning service on campus will be offered to provide worship opportunities for students who do not feel comfortable attending a local church or whose local churches cannot accommodate them.

Recreational Activity

  • Occupancy in fitness facilities will be limited:
    • Indoor track: 20
    • Women’s Fitness Center: 7
    • Men’s Fitness Center: 9
    • Fitness facilities will be accessible only to BJU students, faculty and staff.
    • Intramural athletics will take place outdoors with additional sports such as pickleball, floor hockey and futsal.

Fitness centers 

  • Current DHEC patron restrictions limit the fitness centers on campus. Currently, that is nine in the Fremont Fitness Center and seven in the Women’s Fitness Center at one time. We’re asking students, faculty and staff to use the reservation forms posted for each fitness center under the Business Hours section of the intranet.
  • Entry limited to current BJU students, faculty and staff able to show a HealthCheck green screen and with their BJU ID card.
  • One hour (8–9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays) will be set aside for faculty, staff and retirees age 65+ with the following gating procedure:
    • Retirees will have their temperature taken and recorded upon entry. Faculty and staff will need to show a HealthCheck green screen.
    • Patrons with a temperature above 100.4 will not be admitted and should not return until they are free of fever (without the aid of medication) for 24 hours.

Facility guidelines

  • Patrons should practice generally recommended physical distancing guidelines and wear a mask when unable to. Spotting requires a mask.
  • Patrons should only use designated machines.
  • Patrons should return all weights, bars, collars, etc. to racks after use; fitness center staff cannot assist.
  • Patrons should wipe down equipment before and after each use.
  • Locker rooms, lockers and showers are not accessible.
  • BJU facilities will install a bottle filling station in each of the fitness centers in the near future.

Indoor track

  • Only 20 people at one time are allowed on the indoor track.
  • Entry limited to current BJU students, faculty and staff able to show a HealthCheck green screen and their BJU ID card.
  • BJU retirees can enter with the following gating procedure:
    • Retirees will have their temperature taken and recorded upon entry.
    • Patrons with a temperature above 100.4 will not be admitted and should not return until they are free of fever (without the aid of medication) for 24 hours.
