Wilkie to Serve as Assistant Professor of Teacher Education at BJU

GREENVILLE, S.C. (August 18, 2015) – Dr. Sharon Wilkie will serve as an assistant professor of teacher education in the School of Education at Bob Jones University this fall. Wilkie previously served as an adjunct professor at BJU.

“Dr. Wilkie brings a wealth of practical experience to the classroom which will help prepare our teacher candidates for their clinical practice experience and future careers,” said Dr. Brian Carruthers, dean of the School of Education. “We are excited to have Dr. Wilkie join the School of Education this fall,”

Wilkie earned a BS in Social Studies Education (1977) from BJU, an MPM (1990) from Troy University in Troy, Alabama, an EdS in Administration and Supervision (2005) from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee, and an EdD in Leadership (2015) from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Wilkie previously served as an adjunct professor at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, The Citadel in Charleston, and the University of South Carolina in Columbia. She also served in various capacities with elementary, middle and secondary schools and school districts in South Carolina and Georgia.

A consultant to the South Carolina Department of Education’s Office of Career and Technology Education, she has given conference presentations to the Georgia Graduation Coach Conference (Macon, Georgia), the Cobb County Area 5 Professional Development Regional Conference (Acworth, Georgia), Cobb County Leadership Summit (Marietta, Georgia) and the South Carolina Business and Education Summit (Charleston, South Carolina).

Wilkie was nominated as Teacher of the Year at Barber Middle School (2007), awarded the Barbara A. James Career Specialist of the Year Award for the State of South Carolina (2003) and is a graduate of the Cobb County School District Leadership Academy (2007). She is a member of the National Career Development Association and has served as a member of the South Carolina Association for Career and Technical Education, the South Carolina Career Guidance and Placement Association, South Carolina Tech Prep Association, National Tech Prep Network and the Georgia Professional Association of Certified Educators.

A resident of Greenville, she and her husband have one adult child and three children who attend Bob Jones Academy.
