GREENVILLE, S.C. (August 10, 2024) – Richard “Tripp” Lawrence, a senior biochemistry and molecular biology major at Bob Jones University, completed an internship at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

A resident of Taylors, South Carolina, Lawrence worked in a computer lab researching protein linkages and polymerization. The research was conducted in the School of Biology in the Metskas Lab and consisted of developing programs to classify polymerization in lab samples better. He also participated in career workshops and roundtable discussions with colleagues.

This internship and the people that I worked closest with gave me a clearer picture of the life that I want to lead postgraduate and the career I want to pursue than any class that I have taken as an undergraduate thus far,” said Lawrence. “It is simply a different experience with a different set of perspectives, and I would highly recommend pursuing an internship to anyone who, like me, is unsure about what they want after they graduate, or anyone who wants to hone their skills in a non-academic setting.”
