GREENVILLE, S.C. (May 16, 2016) – The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has selected Bruins Track runner Daniel Marinelli as recipient of the 2016 Wheeler Award. Marinelli is the first Bruins athlete to receive this national recognition.

“Daniel has been part of the Bruins running programs since day one,” Head Coach Landon Bright said. “I am deeply grateful to everything he has brought to our school and program. His achievements in athletics and academics pale in comparison to his Christ-like love for others. He has shown great care for other members on the team and has gone out of his way to make a difference on-campus and in the community. It is an honor to see Daniel recognized for his relentless pursuit of achieving excellence in academics, athletics and relationships.”

The Wheeler Award is sponsored by John and Jody Wheeler who have been involved in athletic activities of Christian high schools and colleges for many years. The Wheelers continue to actively participate in this area of athletics and wish to promote athletics in Christian colleges.

The award was established in order to enhance excellence in Christian track and field competition and to perpetuate the Christian philosophy and faith as exemplified through Christ-like track and field participation in NCCAA member institutions. The recipient of the award is chosen based upon his success in competition and in demonstrating excellence in service to others and in academics.

Marinelli, a resident of Winter Springs, Florida, graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Engineering earlier this month. He recently accepted a position to work at Burns and McDonnell Engineering as part of the global practice of Transmission and Distribution Engineering team.
