GREENVILLE, S.C. (February 28, 2017) – Lauren Watts, a senior biochemistry and molecular biology major at Bob Jones University, has been accepted into the Pediatric Oncology Education (POE) program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Watts, a resident of Greenville, South Carolina, will be participating in a competitive 11-week summer program funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute. Specifically, Watts will be working in the laboratory on a dye to be used for imaging patients with PET (positron emission tomography) scans.

“Lauren has an exceptionally strong academic record as well as significant research experience in the BJU Department of Chemistry and Physics,” says Dr. Brian Vogt, head of the department. “We are confident that she will excel in this program.”

The POE program offers a unique opportunity for students preparing for careers in the biomedical sciences, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, psychology, or public health to gain biomedical and oncology research experience.
