GREENVILLE, S.C. (October 2, 2019) – Katarina Shafer, a senior health sciences major at Bob Jones University, serves as an intern this fall at Prisma Health in Greenville.
Shafer, a resident of Lexington, South Carolina, observes physicians interact with patients as they diagnose conditions and prescribe treatment options. Interns are also able to shadow doctors in labor and delivery, general and vascular surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, and emergency surgery settings.
“The value of an internship with Prisma Health is that we are able to learn under many physicians in specialties that we, as future healthcare professionals, are planning to pursue,” says Shafer. “We are learning critical thinking, how to approach ethical dilemmas, to see patients as more than just their diagnoses, and how to craft our personal philosophy of medicine that both honors God and seeks to serve others.”
