GREENVILLE, S.C. (August 6, 2019) – Joseph Jarrell, a 1982 graduate of Bob Jones University, was recently named to the metro Atlanta area McIntosh High School Hall of Fame Class of 2019. The class includes four individuals recognized as athletes or distinguished alumni. A longtime former teacher, Jarrell was selected as a distinguished alumnus. Inductees will be officially recognized at a ceremony held Oct. 18–19 in Peachtree City, Georgia.

Jarrell earned a BS in secondary education and history from Tennessee Temple University. He later completed an MS in educational administration and supervision from BJU as well as an MA in history and education from Furman University. He also received an EdS certification in history with a focus on 20th century European history and United States history since 1877 from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Jarrell taught world history at McIntosh High School from 1988–2015. During that time, he was selected as 1991 STAR teacher and was a 2004 Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Educator of Distinction. Jarrell also served as president of the 1,300-member Fayette County Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE).

During his tenure at McIntosh, Jarrell secured multiple grants from both private foundations and the federal government. He frequently presented workshops for educators and contributed articles to The Atlanta Journal Constitution. He currently works as a social studies writer at BJU Press.

“I am very grateful to receive this honor and look forward to the induction ceremony in October. I taught in the same classroom for 27 years at McIntosh. For more than three decades it has annually been named as one of the top performing schools in Georgia,” said Jarrell. “I appreciated the high academic standards and the opportunity to communicate my deep love and appreciation for history during my time there.”
