GREENVILLE, S.C. (May 19, 2014) – Joel Neidig, a 2005 Operations Management graduate of Bob Jones University, was recently awarded second prize in the MTConnect Challenge 2. He was selected by [MC]2 2014 MTConnect: Connecting Manufacturing Conference attendees.

Neidig, Technology Manager for ITAMCO in Plymouth, Indiana, was awarded $75,000 for providing a never before view into the manufacturing process by leveraging the capabilities of Google Glass with its heads-up display, camera, touchpad, microphone, email and internet connection built into the spectacle frame and combining it with MTConnect functionality.

According to the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining, one of the organizers of the competition, Neidig’s Google Glass application not only liberated users from laptops and hand-held smart devices, but it enabled travel of the entire shop floor, gathering and sharing machine data provided by MTConnect, while accessing the internet on demand for more information.

MTConnect Challenge 2 participants were tasked with developing innovative and unique software applications using the MTConnect standard that could be easily adopted by manufacturing enterprises, especially lower tier producers, to enhance their manufacturing capabilities and support the Department of Defense (DoD) supply chain management objectives.

Neidig and his wife, Lindsey, are the parents of three young children.
