GREENVILLE, S.C. (June 13, 2022) – Grace Welsh, a junior cross-cultural service major at Bob Jones University, is completing an internship with Bibles International, the Bible society of Baptist Mid-Missions, in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Chad in northern Africa.
A resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Welsh will be working in the linguistics and literacy department on workshops for different language groups. Other projects include training literacy teachers to teach reading in their community using the Bible. She will also assist with drafting a primer.
Literacy and linguistics training helps translators translate the Bible more accurately and prepares church communities to receive their Bibles by learning to read well.
“This internship opportunity challenges me both academically and spiritually to apply what I’ve learned in classes. I have the opportunity to be mentored by veteran missionaries and participate in their work,” said Welsh. “This experience will help me make decisions about pursuing further education and stepping out into service as a missionary.”
