GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 13, 2022) – Emma Hixson, a senior child development major at Bob Jones University, is completing an internship with Bob Jones Academy (BJA).

A resident of Thompson, Ohio, Hixon collaborated with Dr. Julie Hartman, a member of the BJU education faculty, to create an outdoor sensory path for the BJA elementary building. She researched activity ideas, communicated with both University and Academy teachers and helped create a plan for the final product. Hixson also assists BJA art faculty member Sandy Mehus as she teaches art classes.

“Working on the sensory path has helped me see what kind of activities I can include in the classroom and for the sensory path I will be making at home,” said Hixon. “I have also learned how clear communication through different forms affects children’s comprehension. I have also increased my time management skills and learned to multitask and prioritize activities in order to become an efficient worker.”
