GREENVILLE, S.C. (February 14, 2017) – Dr. Michael Moore was recently named President-Elect of the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA). Moore will officially assume his duties July 1 and will become President July 1, 2019.

Moore serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Music Education at Bob Jones University and is conductor of both the BJU Symphony Orchestra and the Fountain Inn Symphony Orchestra. “Dr. Moore has demonstrated superb leadership over our music education program here at BJU,” said Dr. Darren Lawson, dean of the School of Fine Arts and Communication. “I am pleased that SCMEA and the state of South Carolina will now benefit from his passion for training the next generation of music educators.”

Moore completed additional study with Richard Grunow of the Eastman School of Music and holds certificates in Instrumental Music and Early Childhood Music from the Gordon Institute of Music Learning.

Previously, Moore taught instrumental music at Southwood Middle School and Westside High School in Anderson School District Five, the Midlands Home School Band in Irmo, and Bob Jones Academy.

A native of Greenville,  he founded the Greenville Textile Heritage Band in 2007 to celebrate South Carolina’s rich tradition of mill village bands and their contribution to the growth of school bands across the state. He and his wife, Dr. Deanna C. Moore, Professor of Piano at BJU and president of the South Carolina Music Teachers Association, are proud parents of four budding musicians.
