GREENVILLE, S.C. (July 19, 2017) – Claire Overly, a junior biochemistry and molecular biology major at Bob Jones University, was accepted into the summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in chemistry at Penn State in State College, Pennsylvania.

The National Research Council recently named Penn State’s Department of Chemistry among the top chemistry departments in the nation. The summer REU program gives undergraduate students opportunities to participate in frontier chemistry research at a major research facility.

“Claire has an exceptionally strong academic record,” said Dr. Brian Vogt, head of BJU’s Department of Chemistry and Physics. “This great opportunity will develop her research abilities and give her a realistic view of what it is like to work in a graduate-level laboratory.”

Overly, a resident of Greenville, will be working on imaging metal ion dynamics in host-pathogen systems.

“I’m so excited for the opportunity to be immersed in a biochemistry research lab and for the valuable skills I’ll be able to learn and practice in this setting,” says Overly.
