GREENVILLE, S.C. (September 8, 2015) – On the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Bob Jones University will commemorate the 2,977 lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, with a static display of American flags. In addition, a piece of steel girder from the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City will also be displayed.
“Most of our students were very young when the terrorist attacks occurred in 2001,” said BJU President Steve Pettit. “These displays will serve as a memorial to those who lost their lives and as a reminder of what happened that fateful day in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.”
Members of the BJU student body will set up a static display of American flags near the Wade Hampton Boulevard entrance to the campus. Each flag will represent one of the 2,977 victims—from more than 90 countries—that perished in the terrorist attacks in 2001. The students will begin assembling the display Tuesday, Sept. 8 and it will remain in place until 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14.
On Thursday, Sept. 10 and Friday, Sept. 11 from 12 – 5 p.m., the public is welcome to view the piece of steel girder from the North Tower of the World Trade Center in the lobby of Rodeheaver Auditorium, which is located near the center of campus.
