GREENVILLE, S.C. (December 13, 2016) – Bob Jones University President Steve Pettit announced today the receipt of a $500,000 gift from the Sargent Foundation to provide need-based scholarships for BJU students through the BJU Scholarship Fund.

“The Sargent Foundation is a long-time supporter of Bob Jones University,” said Pettit. “I deeply appreciate the Sargent Foundation gift which is being used as a matching gift for donations as it will double the effect of assistance for BJU students who have financial need.”

The Sargent Foundation, founded in 1953 by Earl and Eleanor Sargent, has supported a number of Greenville-based ministries, including BJU, for many years. When Earl and Eleanor passed away, the Foundation continued—and still continues today—to fulfill their vision and intent through the support of the ministries they loved.

BJU is committed to being an affordable option for Christian young people to pursue higher education. Earlier this year, BJU was ranked the third most affordable Christian college in the nation by Christian Universities Online.

During the 2015-2016 academic year, the BJU Scholarship Fund raised $4.3 million and awarded nearly 1,100 need-based scholarships.
