GREENVILLE, S.C. (November 9, 2023) – The Bob Jones University Classic Players will present Romeo & Juliet Nov. 14-16, at 7:30 p.m. nightly in Rodeheaver Auditorium.
“For over 80 years, Romeo & Juliet has been an important part of the Classic Players repertoire here at Bob Jones University,” said Dr. Darren Lawson, dean of the School of Fine Arts and Communication. “Its portrayal of two star-crossed lovers is as relevant today as it was in Shakespeare’s time. Don’t miss this tragic story of love, warring families, and the violence and chaos that ensues.”
Directed by classically trained actor and faculty member John Michael Cox, Romeo & Juliet, one of William Shakespeare’s most well-known plays, has been reimagined as a Western. Set in the Wild West where frontier justice reigns, this production underscores how violence shapes the story and prevents a polarized society from finding peace. The resulting play is a faithful cutting of Shakespeare’s full, original text. The language has not been modified to “fit” a Western aesthetic.”
All performances are open to the public. Tickets for individual performances as well as season passes are available through Showpass or by calling the Programs and Productions Box Office at (864) 770-1372 from 12 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
