GREENVILLE, S.C. (November 14, 2024) – Bob Jones University Classic Players will perform Cyrano de Bergerac Nov. 19-21, at 7:30 p.m. in Rodeheaver Auditorium.

“Edmond Rostand’s French classic is back on the BJU stage—this time featuring a new adaptation of Brian Hooker’s timeless translation,” said Nathan Pittack, associate producer for fine arts at BJU. “Don’t miss this swashbuckling tale of romance, bravery, and virtue!”

Set against the backdrop of the Thirty Years’ War, the brilliant but self-conscious poet and swordsman Cyrano secretly pines for the love of the beautiful Roxane. Roxane, in turn, falls for the handsome but ineloquent Christian. With Cyrano’s skillful words and Christian’s good looks, these two would-be rivals work together to win Roxane’s heart — under the guise of being one suitor. This classical masterpiece celebrates loyalty, self-sacrifice, and the written word.

This will be the eighth time the popular play will be mounted at BJU. In past versions, Dr. Bob Jones Jr. and Dr. Bob Jones III played the titular role. In the 1957 production, Dr. Bob III met Beneth Peters while playing Christian and Roxane. They named their daughter Roxane as a tribute to their beginning.

The 27 cast members, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, play over 40 roles. As with all productions, students from a variety of majors serve as staff.

All performances are open to the public. Tickets for individual performances, season passes and educational performances are available via BJU’s ticketing platform, Showpass, or by calling the Programs and Productions Box Office at (864) 770-1372 from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
