GREENVILLE, S.C. (November 17, 2015) – Bob Jones University fielded five computer programming teams in the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest held at Georgia Tech Nov. 14.
In the 62-team competition, the five BJU teams placed third, fourth, seventh, thirteenth and fourteenth.
“I am very pleased with the efforts of our students and the results they achieved in the programming contest,” said Dr. Jim Knisely, head of the Department of Computer Science at BJU. “This competition allowed us to challenge their academic potential in a competition with numerous public and private institutions from across the Southeast.”
The programming contest, sponsored by IBM, brings together colleges to compete by region. Each team is given 11 problems to complete within a five hour period. BJU competed in the Southeast Region Contest in Division II against such universities as the University of Georgia, University of Mississippi, College of Charleston, Wofford College, Morehouse College, Kennesaw State University, Emory University, Mercer University and The Citadel.
The contest involved solving 11 problems conducted in a GNU/Linux environment. The programs could be submitted in Ada, C, C++, C#, Fortran >=90, Java, Haskell, Lua, Pascal, Python 2&3, and Scala.
