BJU Selects Rivertree Singers as Choir-in-Residence

GREENVILLE, S.C. (September 12, 2018) – Bob Jones University is hosting Rivertree Singers as the 2018-2019 choir-in-residence. The residency is supported by the BJU Division of Music and includes collaborative performances with the BJU Chamber Singers.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rivertree Singers to the BJU Division of Music,” said Dr. Michael Moore, chair of the Division of Music at BJU. “We look forward to our students working alongside the award-winning Rivertree Singers and engaging with them throughout the year.”

Rivertree Singers’ 2018-2019 season begins October 26 with a concert titled Music of the British Isles. This performance will be held in War Memorial Chapel on the BJU campus and will include classic folk and sacred English choral selections.

As part of the residency, Rivertree Singers will perform in collaboration with the BJU Chamber Singers on Friday, November 30, at 5:00 p.m. in War Memorial Chapel on the campus of BJU. This performance is free and open to the public.

Rivertree artistic director Dr. Warren Cook says, “I am delighted Rivertree Singers can use performance and collaboration to inspire collegiate musicians to pursue the community-enriching and life-changing art of choral music.”

Founded in 2010, Rivertree Singers is an ensemble of choral musicians who love living and working in Greenville, South Carolina. Rivertree Singers was awarded the grand prize in the Oxford University Press Choral Advent Competition, and recent concert appearances include Greenville’s The Peace Center for the Performing Arts and a collaborative performance of Dan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo in Chicago at Symphony Hall. The ensemble has also appeared as an invited performing choir at multiple American Choral Directors Association events and in the Piccolo Spoleto Festival Spotlight Series in Charleston, South Carolina.

The BJU Division of Music is a community of Christian artist-teachers and students dedicated to the pursuit of God’s glory through the study of music within a strong liberal arts tradition. BJU offers undergraduate degrees in music, composition, performance, piano pedagogy, music education and church ministries and an online Master of Music Education. Membership in choirs, orchestras, and bands is open to all students by audition, regardless of major.
