GREENVILLE, S.C. (October 3, 2014) – Bob Jones University President Steve Pettit today named Dr. Sam Horn as Vice President for Ministerial Advancement effective January, 2015. Horn will also serve as Dean of the Seminary and School of Religion, and Dr. Steve Hankins and Dr. Royce Short will become associate deans of these respective schools, effective at the end of the current academic year in May.

“Training young people to serve Jesus Christ is what we do best at BJU,” said BJU President Steve Pettit. “Sam is committed to working with our faculty to ensure our ministerial training is second to none in the nation.”

Horn currently serves as President of Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Plymouth, Minnesota. He has also served in administrative roles and on the faculty of Central Baptist Theological Seminary, Northland International University and BJU.

In addition to his academic experience, Horn brings extensive pastoral experience having served in various roles from youth pastor to senior pastor at churches in Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Carolina and Tennessee.

“Sam Horn’s pastoral experience will be invaluable as he works with our young men training for pastoral ministry,” said Pettit.

Horn earned a BA in Bible in 1986, an MA in Bible in 1988, and a PhD in New Testament Interpretation in 1995—all from BJU—and a DMin from The Master’s Seminary in 2007.

Horn, and his wife, Beth, have two children. Robert is a freshman at BJU majoring in Bible and Ashton is in elementary school.
