GREENVILLE, S.C. (November 17, 2016) – The National Opera Association (NOA) announced that Bob Jones University’s 2015 performance of  “La Cenerentola” won second place in their nation-wide opera production competition.

“La Cenerentola” was directed by Jeffrey Stegall. Dr. Michael Moore conducted the orchestra.

“This is a high honor for BJU to receive,” said Dr. Darren Lawson, dean of the School of Fine Arts and Communication. “The soloists, chorus, orchestra and crew in the production worked hard to deliver a superior product, and it’s gratifying to see the National Opera Association recognize the high caliber of their work.”

This is the fifth national award BJU has received from the NOA for opera productions. Earlier awards included “Samson et Dalila” (2009-2010), “Faust” (2010-2011), “Il Trovatore” (2011-2012) and “Aida” (2013-2014).

The NOA promotes excellence in opera education and pedagogy through its support of a diverse community of opera educators and professionals.

BJU will receive the award during the NOA’s National Convention in Santa Barbara, California, in January, 2017.
