Greenville, S.C. (June 11, 2013) – Bob Jones University announced Tuesday that two BJU alumni, Diane Kilgore Condon and Mark Mulfinger, placed in the 2013 Flat Out Under Pressure (FOUP) contest sponsored by the Metropolitan Arts Council (MAC) in Greenville.
Diana Kilgore Condon, who graduated with a BA in Art in 1988, placed second in this year’s competition and received a cash award of $700. Condon placed first in the 2012 FOUP competition.
Mark Mulfinger, who graduated with a BA and MA in Art in 1984 and 1986 respectively, placed fifth in the 2013 competition and received a cash award of $400.
According to MAC, FOUP is an annual collaboration every June between the visual arts community and sound environmental practices, consisting of a 24-hour art-making juried event. The winning artwork is recreated on eight recycling bins along Main Street in downtown Greenville. Pedestrians are able to recycle paper, plastic and glass while being exposed to a unique type of outdoor gallery. The winning entries from the 2013 contest will be featured beginning in January 2014.
In addition to having their work featured on the bins, selected artists receive other prizes, which include cash amounts up to $800 and an all-expense paid trip for two to Cortona, Italy. The selected artists share the exterior space with area businesses that sponsor the bins.
