Greenville, S.C. (April 11, 2013) — Bob Jones University’s (BJU) Alumni Association recently named Sam Rohrer, who tirelessly served the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an elected official, as its 2013 Alumnus of the Year.

Rohrer graduated from BJU in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in management.  After graduation, he moved to Pennsylvania where he became involved in business.  In 1992, he was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Since the beginning of his political career, Rohrer has demonstrated a commitment to government reform and transparency.  His leadership was recognized by his peers as he served on numerous committees – including the Appropriations Committee and the Education Committee and as Ranking Chairman of both the House Finance Committee and the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee. Following his service in the House, Sam served as the Pennsylvania State Director for Americans for Prosperity.

In addition to his service in the House, Rohrer also unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination to serve as governor of Pennsylvania (2009) and as United States Senator (2011).

In June 2012, he was appointed as President of the Pennsylvania Pastors Network where he currently serves, uniting his areas of experience in public policy with his commitment to encourage pastors to boldly preach the truth from the pulpit.

Sam and his wife Ruth Ann live in Berks County; they have six children and five grandchildren.
