GREENVILLE, S.C. (October 5, 2016) – Alex Viscioni, a graduate student in the communications program at Bob Jones University, was the 2016 recipient of the Mary E. Jarrard Graduate Student Paper Award presented at the Carolinas Communication Association (CCA) Conference in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Saturday, Oct. 1.

The CCA provides a forum that encourages student scholarship. Viscioni’s paper, entitled “#MakeDonaldDrumpfAgain: Examining Donald Trump’s Presidential Campaign and the Effect of the Media on Individual and Organizational Sense Making,” was originally written for an advanced organizational communication course to examine Karl Weick’s sense making theory through the lens of the Trump campaign. The paper was selected from four other graduate papers presented at the conference.

Mary E. Jarrard was a lifelong CCA member who was devoted to encouraging student participation at the conference. This Mary E. Jarrard Award is awarded to an outstanding undergraduate and graduate student paper that is submitted to the conference each year.

“This was very unexpected, as there were some very fascinating papers being presented alongside mine, so I’m incredibly grateful to have been chosen,” says Viscioni. “I’m honored to have been given the chance to represent BJU at CCA. This was a very neat experience, and I’m thankful God allowed me to have this chance to bring honor and glory to His name.”

Viscioni, a resident of Bolingbrook, Illinois, was awarded a certificate and a monetary prize for this accomplishment.
